Ansel Elgort: Teen Vogue September Cover Star

September Cover Star Ansel Elgort on Movies, Music, and What He Would Do If He Was Taylor Swift

Posted by Teen Vogue (if it was a small blog I wouldn't copy/paste the whole thing, but seeing as it's Teen Vogue... I don't feel so bad). Photos at the end!!

Watch the behind the scenes video at the end as well!

"When I met Ansel, I didn't know he was a star. We were in Amsterdam, my hometown, at a Nicky Romero Protocol party about a year ago. The funny thing is, I've never seen one of his films because I barely watch movies. We had a crazy-fun night — then I posted a picture with him on Instagram, and the number of comments was ridiculous. I found out who he was a week later. What makes Ansel so cool is his easygoing personality. He's the most humble guy, and he's always true to himself. He is supertalented, but still the same person I met last October. And he produces his own music, which is a big deal in an industry where most people hand that job over to someone else. We send each other tracks, and we've played onstage together — but our friendship is about more than just music; he's like a brother to me. I think we've exchanged around 200 ugly selfies — I'll wake up and get one from him, and then I'll reply back with one. Ansel and I recently met up in New York and had a great conversation, the type you can't have with just anyone. We relate on so many levels — we're both young; we love music and life; and we each have great careers and are trying to balance them with our personal lives. It's nice to have a friend who really understands you. — Martin Garrix"

Ansel Elgort Explains Why Caleb Runs So Weird!!!

I'm so glad he finally acknowledged it!! The thing that bugs me is... Caleb was Erudite. He would have been smart enough to know that running a certain way is going to be better for your body than flailing yourself around... I mean.. in the book Caleb was pretty good at jumping on and off the train because he could calculate the angles, distances, and timing of it all. I'm sure he could figure out how to run, Sheesh...

This is an interview Ansel had with MTV to clarify his reasoning in running so strangely.

Ansel Explains Why His 21st Birthday Is Like Pokemon

Ansel did this interview with MTV to explain how he feels like turning 21 is like a Gyrados learning Dragon Rage. Awesome Pokemon analogy, my friend!

Ansel turned 21 on March 14th, 2015. He celebrated with a party catered by Chipotle Mexican Grill and then his friends and family piled onto a "party bus" with him and they all went to Pacha NYC, where he had a headlining show as Ansolo. See photos here!

Ansel Elgort in Commercial for 2015 MTV Movie Awards

This is awesome! (I'm sorry we didn't share this earlier..) Ansel scored a TV spot with Amy Schumer, the host of this years 2015 MTV Movie Awards.

"2015 Movie Awards host Amy Schumer will totally hook Ansel Elgort up with an award of his own, but she has one not-so-tiny condition. Make sure you watch the big show live on Sunday, April 12 at 8/7c to catch all the action!"

20 Brilliant "Insurgent" Reaction gifs featuring Ansel Elgort via Buzzfeed

I'll be honest... I have no idea how to embed gifs...

So CLICK HERE to go check out these hilarious reaction gifs that Buzzfeed made with Ansel when they had him for his Twitter Q & A. You don't want to miss them!

Be warned- kinda spoiler alert for the last few. They give some detail about the ending of the movie, things you might not already know from the book, so if you haven't seen the movie yet make sure not to scroll to the very end!

Jai Courtney gives Shailene, Miles and Ansel a Q&A

During the Insurgent Press Day, Kim Holcomb (an entertainment reporter) enlisted the help of Jai Courtney to ask his co-stars some humourous questions.

Ansel Elgort, Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller were each asked a question from Jai via a video.

Jai's question for Ansel was "Ansel, were you aware that by portraying Caleb in Insurgent, you'd look like such a b****?"

For Shailene: "Shailene, was it weird kissing your brother in The Fault In Our Stars?"

And Finally to Miles: "Miles, do you think you were robbed not being nominated for an Oscar (for Whiplash) this year? I noticed JK (Simmons) didn't thank you in his acceptance speech. Is that something that upset you, and why?"

HLN: Game on! We quiz the stars of 'Insurgent'

"Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort and Octavia Spencer are the stars of one of the biggest movies of 2015 -- "Insurgent," the second hit in the YA book series/film franchise that has legions of super fans! When we caught up with the star-studded cast of the "Divergent" follow-up before the sequel's release, we had to test their knowledge on their own film and, of course, find out which faction they think they would belong to.

Behind the Scenes Video: Ansel Elgort with Teen Vogue

Ansel recently had a photoshoot with Teen Vogue for their April issue! Here's a behind the scenes video they shared, and the photos are below, along with their intro to the video!

"Going behind-the-scenes with Ansel Elgort is never a bad thing—especially when there's dancing involved. When we spent some quality time with the Insurgent star in Brooklyn during his Teen Vogue photo shoot, he was totally in his element.

Ansel went back to his roots for the dance and theater-inspired shoot. From the backstage dressing room vibes to a gorgeous model accompanying him en pointe, his time in the studio definitely brought back some memories. But that wasn't the only magic that happened throughout the day.

Ansel's mom brought a very special guest by the shoot—Katie Hawley, who's battling Ganglioneuroblastoma, a type of nodular cancer. As a big The Fault in Our Stars fan (and Ansel fan in general!), it made her day to be able to meet her favorite star—and completely inspired Ansel in return.

The main thing we took away from this video? Ansel's still the same sweet, thoughtful guy we've always known him to be. Despite being one of the most-talked-about movie stars in the biz, he's happy to say he's still as normal as can be. As in a Chipotle-loving, street ball-playing guy who loves nothing more than lying in bed relaxing for hours on end. Watch the video above and see for yourself!"

Ansel Elgort interview with Seventeen Magazine (+ Photos)

Ansel is on the cover of the April issue of Seventeen Magazine!

He actually has two covers!

Here's the teaser for the interview from Seventeen Magazine's website:

The egg-throwing scene in The Fault in Our Stars is one of the most memorable moments in a movie that otherwise makes you cry your face off. Turns out, star Ansel Elgort had some real-life practice (eggsperience?), he reveals exclusively in the April issue of Seventeen.

Sounds like Ansel was a bit of a troublemaker back in the day, but the best part of his story is that he was able to sweet talk his way out of it, just like the endlessly charming Augustus.

He tells Seventeen:

"[My friend] Jordan and I used to throw eggs off my roof and hit cars. We got in trouble with the police when I was 15. They came to our door. I told my dad, 'We were throwing eggs off the roof and you were out of town and they got really mad at us and said if we did it again we would get in trouble, but we're never going to do it again.' I said it all in one sentence. He was like, 'Okay.'"

Here are a few quotes from this interview that E! shared here:

"If a woman is really pretty, it's kind of hard. I'm not going to lie. Actually, that's not true," Elgort said. "Me and Shailene have a really platonic relationship. I've never once wanted her sexually, which is nice. But for me, if a person is someone I'm attracted to, and she's my best friend, hopefully we're dating."

"I like to buy girls shoes and jewelry," the 22-year-old actor said proudly. "I buy stupidly expensive shoes. I got Louboutins for my mom and my girlfriend before. My mom was like, 'I can't wear these; they're too high.' I was like, 'Mom, you have to try them—they're so cool. They're red snakeskin!' She still wears them every so often, but she can't walk in them."

"I like romantic dates—going on a long walk in Central Park and then taking the subway downtown and going out to eat and ordering oysters. After that, you walk around again and talk. Morning dates are nice, too. I love doing romantic s--t. It's fun," Elgort told Seventeen, on newsstands March 24. "It's like you're living in a movie."

Ansel Elgort on The Tonight Show

Ansel Elgort was interviewed by Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show on Tuesday, March 3rd about Insurgent!

Ansel Elgort on LIVE with Kelly and Michael! (Video + Photos)

Ansel Elgort went on Live with Kelly and Michael to talk about Insurgent. He even talked about Anselites! I have never heard him say that word out loud before. I know he must've said it to the New York Post once because they shared it in an interview that later made it into People Magazine, but now we get to see it with our own eyes!

(I'm particularly excited about this because I was actually the one who made up the word "Anselite". I knew he was going to have a big fandom someday and I wanted to have a hand in shaping it, so I asked him a number of times what he would choose and a number of my followers and I suggested quite a few options (like Elgies, or Elgorettes, *shudders*) but in the end he chose Anselites! It stands for Ansel + satellite, which is an object that revolves around something else, so in our case we're the fans revolving around the star called Ansel Elgort.)

Here's the interview! Thanks to Catie for recording it and sharing it with us!

Ansel was on The Today Show the morning of Tuesday, March 3rd to promote Insurgent! A new clip from the movie aired and he answered some fan questions! He also kinda managed to get a spoiler in there (for people who haven't read the books, anyways, which I imagine is a lot of the TV audience...)

Make sure to watch the rest of his interview on The Today Show with Kathy Lee and Hoda here!

Ansolo shares music with us!

Check out Ansel Elgort (aka Ansolo)'s guestmix on his fellow producer Arno Cost's show, When In Paris!

What does this even mean, you ask? Ansel shared some of his favorite music with us and even some of his own tracks! This is actually a momentous event because it's the first time he's shared his newest remix in it's finalized form with us! It's called Runaway (U & I) and was produced by Galantis.

Skip ahead to around 30:00 in to the show if you want to hear Ansel! (Not that I suggest missing out on what Arno Cost shared with us for the first half hour, but let's face it, I know my audience.) His voice sounds so strangely deep... A friend of mine thinks its a sore throat, but my guess is that he recorded himself in the middle of the night. Lol we probably think about these things too much. XD

Ansel Elgort Gets Personal with Elle Magazine

I never thought I'd see the day that Ansel spoke so openly about his love life, but apparently that day is here. This interview with Elle Magazine is in their March 2015 issue.  Honestly, I can't believe so much drama came out of this article. It doesn't help having every major news source tweet about it saying "Ansel Elgort lost his virginity at 14" and then only sharing that segment of the interview. Not great for his image. But the other comments about sex, I think that's what really got to people. Mainly because 90% of his fans are younger than 20. I just think sex is still taboo for that generation, so the fact that Ansel is acting like a normal, healthy adult about it spooks them. It's unfortunate. They should listen to him and learn from him. Because it's true, as humans it's in our nature to seek sexual satisfaction, so once you've found it why waste it? That's the human way. And as for wanting to find that special someone who shares your interests (like going to an EDM concert and then enjoying some video game time), what's so wrong with that? Maybe he didn't say everything so eloquently, but he's a real dude. You can't fault him for that.

For a generation of young women, Ansel Elgort may always be Augustus Waters, the cancer-stricken heartthrob in last year's heartbreaking romance The Fault in Our Stars. You can't blame them. Gus is basically Prince Charming with an iPhone. It turns out Elgort—whose father is renowned photographer (and sometimes ELLE contributor) Arthur Elgort—is a hopeless romantic too, often speaking as if he's been sprung from a Shakespearean sonnet. If the 21-year-old actor is so in touch with his emotions, perhaps that's because he graduated from Manhattan's LaGuardia High (aka the Fame school) and spent his summers at Stagedoor Manor, the storied theater camp in the Catskills with alumni such as Natalie Portman and Lea Michele. The dude knows drama. This month, Elgort (who deejays under the name Ansolo and will appear in Prada's spring/summer ad campaign) reunites with his Fault costar Shailene Woodley in Insurgent, the second installment of the Divergent film series—which still may be less intense than what happened the night he lost his virginity.

What were the girls like at LaGuardia?
Ansel Elgort: LaGuardia is a wonderful, wonderful place. If you're like me and you love dancers, you just have to walk up to the eighth floor and you can get one.

You make it sound like adopting a puppy.
[Laughs] That's a terrible way of saying it! No, you can just go up there and try to flirt. I like strong women. Physical women. My dad photographed a lot of beautiful dancers. My mom was a dancer. I love when a girl is like, "I can't hang out. I have to go to class." And I go pick her up and she's all sweaty in a leotard with her hair in a bun. That's the hottest thing ever.

VIDEO: Ansel Elgort on Fox After Dark on NBA TV

Did you miss Ansel Elgort's appearance on Fox After Dark? Never fear, the video is here! Ansel sat down with Rick Fox for NBA TV to talk hoops and Insurgent! (Be sure to turn your volume up if you want to actually hear the interview, the video is kind of quiet!)
